In observance of Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Month, LifeWorks is joining SafePlace and other local area businesses in wearing denim to work on April 21st 2010.
In 1998, a teenage girl in Italy was raped by her driving instructor. He was tried and convicted and sentenced to jail, and his case went to the Supreme Court of Appeals in Rome. The court overturned the original ruling stating that because the victim wore very tight jeans she must have consented in some way.
The young woman’s jeans became a symbol of the many misconceptions still surrounding sexual violence. LifeWorks is joining SafePlace and taking the pledge to wear jeans to work on April 21st and continue to work in the community to put a stop to sexual assault.
